Floating Plants |
Introducing floating plants to
outdoor ponds is a simple, effective means of controlling &
preventing algae blooms (green water). These tropical
plants absorb excess nutrients & also block sunlight; the two
primary causes of algae blooms. The roots provide a place for
goldfish & koi to lay eggs & also a safe haven for fry
(newly-hatched fish).
Floating tropical aquatic plants cannot
survive winter temperatures and should be consigned to the compost
heap in late October or early November. Otherwise, they will freeze
and sink to the bottom, where they will rot and affect the water
quality of the pond. |
